The Omega Speedmaster, born in 1957, is one of the most iconic wristwatches ever produced. Since 1965, it has been the choice of space programs for over half a century and has been associated with some of mankind’s greatest space adventures, earning it the name The Moonwatch.
Naturally, beyond its professional use for more than sixty years, the Speedmaster, with its incredible history and its timeless design, has appealed to a much wider public throughout the world.
In 1985, Omega introduced the first steel Speedmaster with a sapphire display caseback and the caliber 863 with luxury finish. This was a numbered series of 1’000 copies. A second numbered edition was produced in 1988-1989 with a yellow-plated caliber 863. Then, the display back Speedmaster remained in the catalogs, but in unlimited production, first with the same movement plating (references 3592.50, then 3572.50), then with a rhodium plating (3572.50). In 2002, this model was fitted with a saphhire front glass, hence its nickname “sapphire sandwich” (ref. 3573, then 311.30.42.30.01.006).
In 2007, Omega launched a special, but unlimited, version as a tribute to the Speedmasters of the 1950s-1960s whose dial black paint turned brown, due to oxidation. The so-called tropical or chocolate dials are highly sought after by the collectors. This modern interpretation was produced during 5-6 years.
#77.207.xxx is such a Chocolate version and is proposed in excellent condition, as a full set with all boxes and papers. It is offered with an extra Omega leather band with its folding clasp. There are only a few nicks on the case, and scratches on the steel bracelet, earning it a Watch Score of 9.7.
An Extra Score of + 0.2 is given for the extra leather band with deployant.
Our WATCHFID Rating is 9.9.
